What Drives the Greenhouse Effect?
CO2 : Most important greenhouse gas in the atmosphere: 64% of the warming effect on the climate, mainly fossil fuel combustion and cement production.
Methane: Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas. 84 X powerful over 20 yrs.
Methane accounts for about 20.% of the warming effect of long-lived greenhouse gases. 40% of methane is emitted into the atmosphere by natural sources (EG: wetlands and termites) ;- 60% comes from ruminants, rice, fossil fuel wells/ storage/ leaks in pipelines/ bldgs. landfills
Nitrous Oxide (6%) : from fertilizer in soil;
Water vapor: inc with atm Temps; rains out
History of Atmospheric CO2
History of Fossil Fuel CO2 Emissions
According to NASA, Earth’s average surface temperature in 2023 & 2024 was the warmest on record since record keeping began in 1880. On top of that, the 10 most recent years have been the hottest.
CO2 Tracking with Temperature
"Every year for the rest of your life will be one of the hottest in the record."..
NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies.
2023 & 2024, were very likely the hottest in at least 125,000 yrs
Global Temp also crossed a key threshold, surpassing 1.5C over pre-industrial levels for the first time. Ref: Met Office.
World is on track to hit an estimated 2.7C of warming according to scientists at the Climate Action Tracker (CAT)
NOAA: the country was 3.5°F above the 20th century average A total of 1,117 counties (33%) across the Lower 48 states and Alaska were record warm for the year. More than 300 million people experienced a top-10 warmest year. .Las Vegas saw its all-time hottest temperature of 120°F on July 7. In Deadhorse, Alaska, the high of 89°F on Aug. 6 -an all-time high Temp.; and the highest temp. so far north in that state. Heat milestones were also obliterated in Phoenix, which had 70 days of 110°F or higher days and its hottest summer and year on record.
