For Our Future

Fishers Sustainability Team -  Focus on the Climate Crisis and Future Generations

Start With Why: Sustainability

We are very concerned about the  large and unacceptable risks that hot planet / hot oceans are exposing all our children and future children.  "Our world is not governed by even the most basic ethical standards of survival for young people or future generations." (Jeffrey Sachs, 2025).

We are alarmed at indifference the oil/ gas industry has demonstrated in their continual burning of more and more oil products (gasoline, diesel) and "natural" gas (methane) in its various forms.  Releasing green house gases and the high leakage rates of natural gas (methane) thru the supply chain are the main drivers of overheating our earth.

We also demand that all our elected legislators take significant action to support building clean energy systems through (stable and responsible) nuclear, solar, wind and storage.  These systems not only decrease future damage to our climate, but also improve the future stability of our cities, families and economies.

There is still hope.  Our human ability to engineer our way out of problems shouldn't be underestimated, but we face real world limits in WAYS we can grow.  Continuing to grow the same way we have the last 100 years will lead to disaster.  Please see the presentation below on "Irreversible climate tipping points".
